4Olfa Rotary CutterAug 04, 2007
By Celeste Alexander "SeaQuilter"
I have been using the Olfa Rotary cutters since they first became available to quilters. This one has an ergonomic to fit the hand well. It is easy to change the blade and the only problem I have with it is that it is not easy to change to left handed use. I would recommend the Omnigrid cutter for ambidexterous use which is important to me as I don't care to move the fabric around and there are times when it is awkward to move the matt.

4Like a warm knife through butter..Jul 04, 2009
By Alexandra
This cutter smoothly slices through upholstery fabric. Blade replacement is simple and intuitive and you can swap it to either the left or right side (I am left handed). I like the locking mechanism, it makes me feel a bit more safer with that satisfying click.

With a Fiskars 18"x24" Self Healing Cutting Mat, I am able to trace around some basic patterns, but for detail work, the smaller diameter blade might be nicer. A large mat could be idea depending on how much space you have. Fiskars has a folding mat, which appeals to me, but I haven't tried it.

I purchased this for less than the MRSP (yay!) and liked it enough that I obtained a pink one along with a pinking blade (fun!). Good luck with your research!

5Smooth cutter!Feb 28, 2011

As a quilter, I've been using rotary cutters for years now. I have tried several brands. I prefer my Olfa cutter over the others. The handle is comfortable and the cutting action is very smooth. Olfa blades are sharp and very good quality. This is one of my most used tools in my sewing room.

4A minor difficulty with a ruler, but otherwise greatJun 13, 2011
By Ryuji Suzuki
This rotary blade knife is easy to use, very sharp, and it's great for things that are difficult to cut nicely with regular cutter knives. However, because the blade is rotating, it is difficult to use this against a ruler, without shaving off the edge of the ruler. I wish they had a non-rotating part that I can hold and slide against a ruler... If you are planning to use it free hand, I see no problem.

5Love, Love, Love & it can create bias strips!Jul 28, 2011
By J. R.
This is my 2nd Olfa 45mm rotary cutter. I'd been wanting the ergonomic cutter for some time but was having a hard time justifying the purchase - why would I need 2 lifetime products? Well I read a tidbit that changed my mind... If you put a blade on both sides of the machine you'll get perfect bias strips cut in no time! Alas, I'd justified the rest of my reasons, I now have 2 cutters; that way when working on a project I can have 1 set up for paper and 1 for fabric, or 1 for pinking and so on... In addition, I'll now have a primary cutter w an ergonomic handle to assist my arthritic hands. Guilt solved.

Beyond all that, the ergonomic design is more comfortable than my older cutter - thus, ending hand fatigue and helping me sew/craft longer than normal. This newer design has the quick change design, so it's easier for me to change blades, actually, it's really a fast process. Last week I went back and forth from the cutter to the wave blade several times without much ado.
